"Living Proof" is the second track and fifth single from Camila Cabello's sophomore studio album, Romance (2019). It was released in November 16, 2019, along with the album pre-order as an instant grant and it was written by Cabello with Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, Justin Tranter and Ali Tamposi, and produced by Mattman & Robin.

In the song, Cabello uses religious imagery to describe her relationship with her lover, in addition to a falsetto used "in stomping and catchy chorus". The song's opening contains a sample of a recording by Andy Jones for his The Africa Heartwood Project, which contains orphans singing.

Background Edit

Cabello first teased the song in February 2019.[2] She later announced the song's release on November 13, 2019.[3] Cabello has stated that the song is one of her favorites she wrote for Romance, stating that it was "her way of coping as a hopeless romantic".[4][5]

The song opens with a clapping beat and a steady guitar and the opening contains a sample of a recording by Andy Jones for his The Africa Heartwood Project, which contains orphans singing.[5][6]

Music video Edit

The official music video, directed by Alan Ferguson, was released on November 24, 2019, the night of her American Music Awards performance.[7] It was inspired by the John Everett Millais painting Ophelia, which depicted the fictional Shakespearean character floating in a pool covered in flowers.[8] Throughout the video, she is seen frolicking with a group of dancers and laying in a bed of petals.[8] As of January 2020, it has over 12.8 million views and 415 thousand likes on YouTube.

Live performances Edit

Cabello debuted the song at the American Music Awards, where she also performed "Señorita" alongside Shawn Mendes and "Shake It Off" alongside Taylor Swift and Halsey.[7] On December 5, 2019 Cabello performed the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,[9] as well as on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the next day.[10]

Lyrics Edit

[Intro]
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, I promise
Ooh

[Verse 1]
Tell me something, but say it with your hands, slow
When you touch me, paint me like a Van Gogh (Oh)
I wanna study every inch of you
'Til you trust me to make the angels come through

[Pre-Chorus]
Like a choir singing "Hallelujah"
When my body's crashin' right into ya
When we align, ooh yeah
Do you feel me?
Can you feel me?
'Cause I can't breathe

[Chorus]
Where did you come from, baby?
And were you sent to save me?
Ooh, there's God in every move
Ooh, and you're the living proof (Oh)
The way your hands can shake me
Soft to the touch like, baby
Ooh, there's God in every move
Ooh, and you're the living proof (Oh)

[Verse 2]
Count the freckles, as they run down your spine
Show your demons, and I might show you mine
One at a time, yeah, yeah, what are you hidin'?
What a design, yeah, yeah, I wanna dive in
What a divine moment
Can you feel me? (Oh)
Can you feel me? (Oh)
'Cause I can't breathe

[Chorus]
Where did you come from, baby?
And were you sent to save me?
Ooh, there's God in every move
Ooh, and you're the living proof (Oh)
The way your hands can shake me
Soft to the touch like, baby
Ooh, there's God in every move
Ooh, and you're the living proof (Oh)

[Bridge]
Like a choir singing "Hallelujah"
Ooh yeah, choir singing "Hallelujah"
Like a choir singing "Hallelujah"
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Choir singing "Hallelujah"
Body's crashin' right into ya (Oh)
Do you feel me?
Can you feel me?
'Cause I can't breathe (Oh)

[Chorus]
Where did you come from, baby?
And were you sent to save me? (Oh)
Ooh, there's God in every move
Ooh, and you're the living proof (Oh)
The way your hands can shake me
Soft to the touch like, baby
Ooh, there's God in every move (Ooh)
Ooh, and you're the living proof (Oh)

[Outro]
Like a choir singing "Hallelujah" (Baby, babe)
Ooh yeah, choir singing "Hallelujah" (Baby, babe)
Like a choir singing "Hallelujah" (Ooh), "Hallelujah" (Ooh)
And you're the living proof (Oh)
